#YouthAgainstViolence

In October 2024, in proud partnership with the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) and other community champions, JYAN launched the #YouthAgainstViolence project. This initiative explores how violence affects adolescents and youth, while actively engaging at-risk students, youth leaders, and community stakeholders in violence prevention, conflict resolution, and the development of a youth-driven Call to Action on crime and violence.

We are Advocating To:

Empower at-risk youth by equipping over 50 students with life-changing conflict resolution and mediation skills through intensive workshops.

Raise awareness on Gender-Based Violence through the facilitation of eight sensitisation sessions during which we engaged more than 200 students to understand, recognise, and respond to the challenges of gender-based violence.

Engage the wider community by convening roundtable discussions with over 50 stakeholders (including educators, policymakers, and community leaders). During this roundtable we collectively addressed the issue of violence against children whilst proposing pragmatic solutions to mitigate this phenomenon.

Reach over 500 high school students at the Champions’ Summit during which we shared strategies to prevent violence and promote safety across our schools.

Our Priorities

To create safe and respectful environments by reducing youth violence (specifically gender-based violence), and by promoting transparent reporting, responsive law enforcement, and restorative justice practices in schools and communities.

To build strong community partnerships by engaging diverse stakeholders, launching dynamic digital campaigns, and producing policy briefs that spurred informed dialogue and collective action against violence.

To promote economic empowerment by supporting initiatives that offered viable pathways for young people’s futures and fostered capacity building for sustained personal and professional growth.
